The goal of the Visual Guide for Hair & Beauty is to improve communication between students, training institutions and hairdressing and beauty businesses. We aim to support foreign-language speakers when it comes to understanding technical terms and phrases to improve the outcome of their training, whether at an educational institution or in the workplace. The Visual Guide for Hair & Beauty provides them with a multilingual overview of industry-specific words, phrases and images that are commonly used when performing everyday activities.

Who is the Visual Guide for Hair & Beauty for?

This visual guide can be used by anybody working in the hairdressing and beauty industry or training to work in it. The guide can be used by:

  • Students who wish to expand their technical terminology and improve their industry language skills;

  • Teachers who require visual and practical teaching resources when training foreign-language students;

  • Employers and staff in the hairdressing and beauty industry for facilitating communication with foreign-language staff or trainees.

How do you use the Visual Guide for Hair & Beauty?

It’s easy to look up specialist terms and phrases in the guide in Dutch, French and English. The website contains:

  • Specialist terminology: look up specific words that are commonly used in the hairdressing and beauty industry;

  • Example phrases: discover examples of phrases that you can use in your everyday interactions and tasks;

  • Images: see visualisations of specialist terms so that their meaning is easier to understand.

Who was on the team?

The Visual Guide for Hair & Beauty was created through a joint effort by a range of entities in the hairdressing and beauty industry, helmed by the Fonds voor Bestaanszekerheid van het Paritair Comité 314 (the Fund for the Socioeconomic Security of Joint Committee 314).
